The Mayan Maze : Known is a drop, the unknown is an Ocean. Deep in the rainforests of Mesoamerica, lies the perfect maze. Enchanted by the Mayans, he who entered the maze, and solved his way to the other end, would be the one to attain true and absolute enlightenment. To him, all of life’s secrets would uncover, with him, the supreme source of energy would connect, to him, all unknown, will be known. This season, for Spring Summer 2013, the designers draw inspiration from this ancient civilization, imprinting an entire collection with hints of its myths and mystique. - Press Release
This mostly black n white monochrome collection is full of Birds of Paradise motifs .... which reminded us of Garuda ... Lord Vishnu's mount (vahana) .... quite an Indian parallel to Mayan mythology ... what with the Mayan calender ending in 2012 and all the brouhaha in the media about it ... am:pm has showcased a very contemporary inspiration !! Structured blouses, sharp shoulders, collars, puffed sleeves, high waisted checks and liquid black silk satins and organzas ... we loved this sophisticated collection :)

They are Kolkatta based designers ... we don't know much about them ... must be bad with social media ... we searched for a press release but didnot get one ... googled them ... hardly any info ... searched the FDCI Fashion Design Council of India site ... no info there either ... so we gonna say what we feel like ... heheh :)
First thing first .... they started their runway show with Pale Horses by Moby .... say whaaaatttttt ....
"Put me on the train, send me back to my home
Couldn’t live without you when I tried to roam
Put me by the window, let me see outside
Looking at the places where all my family died
Leave me by the churchyard, leave me on my own
Someone came and take me back to my home
Put me by the window, let me see outside
Looking at the places where all my family died"

Volume and
proportions are contemporary in Kavita Bhartia's Spring Summer 2013 collection
that resonates the memory of a Romanian holiday—bound with a dose of
sensuality. She's among the most intellectual of Indian fashion designers and
what made her choose this theme was the fluid ease of the epoch's garments. Her
strength as a mixologist comes through in the constructions that are moulded
into attractive drapes to maintain a spirit of effortless elegance.
Every look
emphasizes the honed body through fabrics that balance comfort and opulence
like chiffon, organza and silk Lycra. 'Folklore
Saga' is steeped in references from Eastern European countries... particularly
the softly structured Romanian peasant blouses which legendary artist Matisse
(an enthusiastic collector of textiles) also showcased in his paintings. There
is something almost balletic about the floor-length gowns that flow with every
step. Kavita has embellished them with embroidered geometrical motifs—based on
geometric patterns used in weaving for decades—typical of the designer's
artisanal hand detailing. The central theme extends to the color palate too.
Kavita has a vibrant sense of color and taking a cue from Romania culture...
creams and pastels, purple and turquoise blend seamlessly in a palate shot with
the brilliance of neon. - Press Release
Kavita Bhartia opened her show to drums and two humans cartwheeling down the runway .... lol ... we say humans cause thats all they faintly resembled ... our eyes were like whaaaaattttttt .... then the first model sashayed down the runway .... and we were like .... is that bedouin headgear ? ... no those are freaking Rasta locks ... Bob Marley gone blonde with streaks of neon pink and green !!!!! We dont know how those girls managed all that dreadlock Marley hanging down to beyond their waists Rapunzel style .... but eye popping it was ... especially when the music changed from drums and cymbals to Bagpiper music .... :O ..... yes you heard it right .... music was pure Riverdance ... those tap dancers from Ireland ( check them out on Utube :) ... clothes were romantic ... we loved the opaque tights best !! ... the details were pure awesomeness ... even for a person like D ... who is grunge, goth, punk or at best sometimes preppy in her personal style ... the clothes were seductive ... quite a feat Ms Bhartia !!
