On 15 February 2013, a meteor entered Earth's atmosphere over Russia and exploded over Chelyabinsk with the force of 30 Hiroshima bombs ... It was unanticipated and too small an object to be identified on radar .... And no we have not turned into a newsdesk, people of the world :p ... Its the Russian connection that we are marvelling at .... Particularly at the recently concluded Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week Fall 2013 collections of Tadashi Shoji on Day 1 and continuing with Rozae Nichols/Clover Canyon, Elie Tahari, Christian Siriano, Zang Toi, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein ..... From the regal beauty of the Peterhof Palace of St. Petersburg .... To the opulent gowns of the ice princesses of Imperial Russia fleeing its demise in peasant blouses .... To the the grace and elegant glamour of the Bolshoi ballet and Opera .... To the snowy tundra of Siberia ..... To the military Cossack hero of Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoy and Sholokov ... To heroines out of Russian romantic literature .... To a 1960's Russian film "Ivan's Childhood" ..... The Russians exploded into New York Fashion Week to inspire with a vengeance .... Celebrated and trend worthy ..... Pre dating the meteor by a week ( NYFW Fall 2013 was from 7th Feb - 14th Feb ..... Meteor hit was on 15th Feb ) :p
Tadashi Shoji
Tadashi Shoji's Fall collection tells a tale of exiled nobility, inspired by the splendor of the Russian Empire and the eventual fall of Imperial rule. Our journey begins in St. Petersburg, Russia. Most impressive was the city itself, shrouded in the darkness of winter. The resplendent Winter Palace shone brilliantly against the shadowy backdrop of a darkened sky. It was a time fraught with turbulence. Exiled royalty fled to Siberia, disguised in peasant clothing. Inspired by this escape, this collection marries aristocratic style with folkloric details. This season, we invite you to travel back in time to wintertide in Russia to explore an age of grandeur and to immerse yourself in a collection inspired by an enchanting dynastic past. - Press Release.
This was the background story to a breathtaking collection of glamorous gowns of Guipure lace (a firm stiff lace with no net background) on Neoprene (synthetic rubber fabric) , paisley printed silk Gazar (gleaming light weight fabric with ability to hold its shape and thus highly used in bridal and evening wear), washed velvet and organza ..... His Anna Karenina in jewel toned laces, Watteau back chiffons and dropped waists maintained her regalness even in her peasant avatar in embroidered blouses, pouffy sleeves and washed velvet gowns .... This was definitely the stand out collection of Day 1 ... Have a look :)
