It is the biggest award show of the year !! .... whichever way you want to look at it .... The Oscars is THE most recognised and viewed award show of the planet ..... and for the general public, apart from the movies and its peripheral galaxy .... it is also the biggest fashion parade on earth ! .... The red carpet arrivals of the 'It' stars are in an entertainment genre all by itself .... every look is captured and dissected by fashion critics and opinion makers under the harshest of competitive showmanship of who wore what ...... the opinions are endless and the media merciless in presenting those opinions ..... We at Delhi Style Blog had a rather sleepless night too .... India time being what it is ..... by 6 AM IST we were literally propping up our eyelids with matchsticks !! ..... By now we all know who won what ... and at a fast recap .... Best Picture : Argo .... Best Actor in a Leading Role : Daniel Day-Lewis ..... Best Actress in a Leading Role : Jennifer Lawrence ..... Best Actor in a Supporting Role : Christoph Waltz ...... Best Actress in a Supporting Role : Anne Hathaway .... Best Director : Ang Lee .... Now for the style files ladies and gentlemen ..... Prepare to be disappointed ..... Yes, that's right ..... we were pretty disappointed with all this pale beige, lavender, sea foam blue and pale pale skin and make up that the western world is so taken up with .... The Hollywood glamour that we have come to expect from the Oscar red carpet A listers was missing this year ..... Nothing and nobody was sensational .... General media ( read western and a few of our national dailies) was flogging a dead horse raving about looks that would be about average in any other year !! ... Have a look at the circus and see if you disagree :)
That dear Ladies and Gentlemen is the top half of a pale pink satin Prada gown on Anne Hathaway .... It is also the most trending fashion news on Twitter since Anne came down the red carpet with twin goosebumps on her chest and her throat decorated in Tiffany jewels in modern Audrey Hepburn fashion :p ... But of course good ole Audrey was rather flat chested and never needed to worry about any part of her anatomy standing at attention, lol !! .... We are eternally in love with Anne's look in The Devil Wears Prada .... but this Prada column is a hmmmm thingy for us though it is in a bang on trend pale pink colour ..... We loved the hair, jewels and make up though :)

Charlize Theron in a white Dior couture gown with Harry Winston jewels .... Love !
Renee Zellweger in a gold Carolina Herrera gown and wine red Van Cleef and Arpels jewels .... many fash critics carved her up and Twitter was abuzz with speculations that she was drunk, high or squinting with no contacts on ... Take your pick .... But we love this old Hollywood glamour look !
The Belle of the Ball was definitely Best Actress Jennifer Lawrence of Hunger Games fame .... In a Dior Couture gown and Chopard jewellery ... See the pic on the right top corner ? .... Thats when she tripped on her gown while going up the steps to recieve the statue ... But we have a sneaking suspicion that it was a photo oppurtunity to display the marvellous glamour of the stunningly constructed couture confection :p
Thats TV host Maria Menounos .... Not famous in our part of the world .... But what a pretty electric pink gown among all the nudes and monochromes !
Olivia Munn in Marchesa Fall 2013 .... We did a story on the collection .... Recognise it from that post ? :)
Fan Bing Bing in Marchesa Fall 2013 again .... Ha ! .... We knew while doing the Marchesa post that some of those gowns are gonna walk the red carpet for Oscar :)
Naomi Watts in a Giorgio Armani silver sequinned gown and Stacy Keibler (better known as George Cloony's current squeeze) in a Naeem Khan .... Two dresses that totally rocks the metallic trend ... Love !
The ladies added some colour on the fash carpet .... Well we loved the colour ...... Reese Witherspoon in a Louis Vuitton strapless cobalt blue gown and Robin Roberts (talk show host) in a cobalt blue velvet dress by Marc Bouwer
Aha .... The best dressed man and record breaking three time Oscar winner for Best Actor .... The handsome Daniel Day-Lewis in a navy blue tux suit by Domenico Vacca, and rocking the lean fit slim lapel trend .... Absolutely stood out in an all black suited sea of men .... On the left with him is Meryl Streep(haven't bothered to find out the designer) and on the right is his wife Rebecca Miller
We don't know why these previous year red carpet hotties wore what they did with all the sartorial oppurtunities at their disposal .... Nice gowns but red carpet blah .... Catherine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murad and Nicole Kidman in L'Wren Scott
Jennifer Garner in a plum violet Gucci (she looks pretty in anything !) ...... Halle Berry in Versace (ok on the red carpet, but when she was walking on stage to introduce Dame Shirley Bassey, it shimmered and sizzled !) ..... Jennifer Hudson in a petrol blue gown by Roberto Cavalli ( she actually looked quite fetching on TV )
Kelly Rowland in Donna Karan Atelier (nice gown but not wow) ..... Queen Latifah stunning in a Badgley Mischka gown (that is because the Queen rocks any outfit with her phenomenal confidence, oomph and presence) .... Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille couture (she has rocked better looks before)
Kristen Stewart in a dull as dullest can be look in a Reem Acra couture blush gown that does nothing for her shape !
Adele in a Jenny Packham black beaded gown that is making her look dowdy and matronly, saved only by her beautiful face .... And the worst dressed is certainly Helena Bonham Carter in a Vivienne Westwood couture ..... With all the money at their disposal, in God's name why ???????

Amy Adams in a strapless Oscar de la Renta gown ..... The fash critics loved this one ..... The sweep is of a red carpet wowza .... But we just can't like it somehow .... Reminds us of dirty city pigeons ... Lol !
Two ladies of the older generation .... But what a contrast .... On the left is Helen Hunt in a visibly crushed H&M dress from its eco-friendly Conscious collection ( Hi street arrives at the Oscars !) ...... And on the right is the absolutely stunning and superbly toned Jane Fonda in a no apology accepted canary yellow Versace gown and totally rocking it .... We love that bright bit of sunshine from the bottom of our Indian hearts ! :D
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab couture and Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen .... Boring and boring !
Amanda Seyfried in a lilac Alexander McQueen gown looks pale and washed out ....... and Jennifer Aniston doesn't have the oomph to carry off that red strapless Valentino (look at her posture and lanky hair)
