Delhi Style Blog: Neon Fashion Trend Review Spring Summer 2013

Neon is sweeping the fashion world since last year and it showed up in the runways of both Spring Summer 2013 and Autumn Winter 2013 .... Fashion editorials all over the web has been proclaiming the return of the neon 80's for sometime now .... but for us here in India .... Neon is really not a trend .... we have been neonising our world since time immemorial .... where the western world use neon sparingly as an accent .... we Indians go the whole hog .... nothing is too bright on our tan skins ... we love colour .... the brighter the better .... Way back in 1956, legendary photographer Norman Parkinson traveled the length and breadth of India for a photo shoot for British Vogue .... when Diana Vreeland, then editor of Harper's Bazaar saw the images, she exclaimed famously ... "How clever of you Mr Parkinson, to know that pink is the navy blue of India" ..... what she meant obviously is that if black, navy blue and nudes was the common colour palette for westerners .... for Indians, colours like Rani Pink (shocking neon pink), lemon yellow, Sindoori red (neon orange red), parrot green, Aasmani Neel ( neon sky blue), Firozi (neon tuquuoise blue), Santari (neon orange) is the common colour palette .... after all the Indian National Bird is the Peacock (the male) and the National Flower is Lotus .... and the best equivalent of western graffiti and Japanese Manga in neon can be seen on Indian truck decorations !!

I was styling for the brand video for Whts.In (a luxury brand exhibition at the Kila, Mehrauli, Delhi) for Cashcow Films, Delhi .... and Shima was doing the behind the scenes shoot .... we had access to some of the best Spring Summer 2013 collections and in todays's post we are featuring a Pink and Yellow dress from Gaurav Gupta's Spring Summer 2013 collection called "Cathode" ... with intricate pleating on the neckline (GG is famous for his moulded pleats) ...... and a Pink and Yellow dress from Shazia Saleem London's Resort 2013 collection ... in silk and brocade (heritage textiles and contemporary design) .... the model is Kaata Fazekas, from Budapest,Hungary (who is currently working in India) .... have a look :)

Gaurav Gupta Spring Summer 2013 "Cathode"

In the cathode, the name of the collection infuses a sense of the scientific, yet instead of going literal with his inspiration; he chose to give the garments a strong sportswear vibe. The fluidity of the fabric and the ease of the clothing all have an essence of that aesthetic. Lightweight Georgette and cotton is what Gupta is offering for summer, and we couldn't agree more with that choice. Kaata Fazekas

We met Kaata for the first time during this shoot ... she is versatile, professional, polite, courteous (even after a super tiring day), friendly and speaks good English (very important requirement for a non indian model) .... we got along famously and is now a firm friend .... no wonder she is making waves in the modelling circuit here .... Kaata is from Budapest, Hungary ..... she has super cute curly hair .... loves nature trips ( wants to see the Himalayas before she leaves), rafting,sunbathing, running ... quite sporty in her personal life .... comfort is her first priority in choice of clothing ... loves jazz, dubstep, rock, pop ( Punnany Massif, AM:PM) .... loves Delhi because of the friendly people and weather but misses her home food, especially "paprikás krumpli (Hungarian dish of potatoes and pepper with sausage) .... and wants to be a gorgeous mother "of a lot of children" .... hahahaha .... have a great stay in India Kaata :)
