15 Style Tips from FDCI WIFW Spring Summer 2014 Part 2
Saturday, January 04, 2014
Hello peeps ! Here we are with our second part of 15 Style Tips from Fashion Design Council of India's Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 runway shows .... After a hibernation of three weeks it is good to see you readers checking out our Part 1 of the series we blogged about yesterday .... Thank You !! .... You know blogging is a funny business ..... especially when you blog in your spare time as and when you can .... there are a million ideas and stuff we would love to share with you .... but Life happens .... and you are forever trying to snatch some time out to share your passion .... Most blogs die because Life is unpredictable .... It happens without regard to your to do lists, your me time, your family time, your holiday time .... your blogging schedule goes for a whack and you are left praying that your precious readership do not forget you .... It happens with all personal bloggers .... We are an obsessed lot .... obsessed about exclaiming and oohing and aahing about all the shiny new things we come across ... read about ... experience .... that we MUST share !! .... Its pathological really ... this sharing habit .... on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook .... the communication channels are never enough !! .... and then Bam ! you realise that you must buckle down and have a proper conversation .... through a blogpost .... and capture why things appeal to you ... in a logical sorted way ..... when all the time your mind is still on a fantastic show you saw on FTV, a new hit on YouTube, a Devil wears Prada rerun on TV .... You see .... all Fashion and Style Bloggers are inherently scatterbrained NEW and IT chasing fiends with a death wish to report their visual experiences ... heheheh .... with blatant disregard to why should people read your stuff .... and why should your opinion matter !!! .... But blog we must ... in the search for that Holy Grail of Hope that someone out there reading this will find a similarity with our experiences in discovering a whole new world of fabulous style and fashion !!! .... So here it is, our final part of the 15 Style tips from the fashion shows of Spring Summer 2014 .... you can catch up with Part 1 here :)
How stupendous is this Renaissance print skirt suit from Pankaj and Nidhi !! .... There were a lot of designers who showcased prints at Fashion Week .... and you might think that this is just another skirt suit, right ? .... Wrong !! .... this is just not another skirt suit sistahs !! .... The problem with wearing print is the symmetry of the fabric !! .... Capiche ? Comprende? ... Non ?? .... Well the trick to a killer skirt suit like THAT one is that every print on the right side of the suit is perfectly aligned to every print on the left side .... That is .... if you were to cut the suit into half ... the other half is a perfect mirror of print to print .... and that is something most designers and local brands DONOT pay attention to !! .... And that is why we DSB girls never buy Print dresses online .... because most often than not .... the print patterns donot align or match at the seams !! .... This Pankaj n Nidhi suit led us to make our own skirt suits with local cheap calico cotton ..... But because we kept a hawks eye watch on how the Darzi aligned the print pattern .... it turned out so "designer" that we had our designer friends asking where we bought it ... heheh :)
Behold the simplicity of this Maxi dress !! ..... Again, Pia Pauro is another of our favourite in terms of styling .... it is never too ornate save for one killer detail !! ..... THAT giraffe has taken this simple maxi to the level of a piece of architecture we kid you not !! .... Notice the placement on the garment .... it is to the side and vertically pulls the eye in one swoop !! ..... The perfect piece for petite girls wanting to look God defyingly taller .... and for all sort of sinful flab hiding in visual 3D ... haha !! .... All of you who own a maxi must must try this style steal .... Know how we gonna do it ? ..... We will simply applique a Giraffe shape in a contrasting colour on a plain colored maxi .... psst !! ... one of us is even thinking of appliquing a hand painted Qutub Minar , howzzat ?
THAT blue wrapper was just another ordinary chiffon long coat to our eyes when we first saw it on ramp ......... THEN we realised that it was ATTACHED !!!! .... to a HALF SLEEVE coat !!!!! ..... oh the absolute BRILLIANCE of it !! .... You know why ?? ..... Because underneath the blue wrapper .... the LAPELs of the half sleeve coat crosses over in what is called a "shawl collar style" ..... and the neckline of the wrapper is stitched onto the contours of the lapel V ..... Therefore the V tips of the blue wrapper do not meet .... Instead the tips are vertically apart for approximately 3 inches ... and the wrapper edges are cut away from the V tips ... What these tricks does is ..... visually give you a very fashion illustration type of figure with legs that go on foreverrrrrrrr !!!!! ...... Also because of the padded sharp shoulders of the half sleeve coat underneath .... the wrapper though made of floaty transparent chiffon sits beautifully on the shoulders to give you great structure !! .... GENIUS !! .... So if you have a old half sleeve coat .... try updating it with a sheer wrapper like this :)
Sanchita is another designer who walks the talk .... as in she is every inch a style Diva herself and is one of the sharpest dressers in the Indian fashion circuit !! .... When she sent out this look on the runway .... trust us ... most of the fashion people who attended the show must have copied this style statement anytime between October and now !! ..... THAT cascade of ruffles on a plain schoolboy shirt is pure GENIUS !!!! ..... Can you even begin to imagine the myriad combinations you can do with this styling ? ..... We are thinking pastel lace on a white shirt ..... denim ruffles or dreamy chiffon confections ....... dude even the bottom part of an eyelet petticoat your grandma wore from the local market !!!! .... The simplest way to wear this look ? ..... Just ask your Darzi to add flounces to an elasticated band .... wear the shirt ... button up .... wear the flounces in tiers over the shirt !!!! Voila :)
THAT saree pallu cape with a white playsuit is everything that represents the aesthete of The God of Minimalism Wendell Rodricks !! ...... Simple, refined, classic silhouette with exquisite tailoring !! .... Styled with linear gladiators so simply converted from the humble Indian sandals !!!! ..... You can wear whatever you want underneath, but the cape is such an easy thing to do, that we predict you are just gonna run to your wardrobe ...... moment you read this ........ take a dupatta ..... snip off one fourth lengthwise .... or don't snip off if you would like the cape to fall beyond your elbows ..... and just stitch up both ends ..... THATS IT !!!!!! ...... Just wear the stitched part on your Maang and arrange the rest ..... Isn't it the most superest idea everrrrrr !!!!
So those were our 15 most voted for Style Tips that we gleaned from the fashion shows of Wills India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 ...... What do you think guys ? ..... Doable ? ..... Please do tell us if you tried out any of the tips .... we would love to hear from you ...... Until the next time .... love :0

15 Style Tips from FDCI WIFW Spring Summer 2014
So here is the last 7 of our top 15 from our Style Files !! ..... We have filed them alphabetically because that is the safest thing to do haha .... You see, we are four girls in DSB, with varied taste and personal style .... so naturally we all had our different takes on trends we would like to adapt to our wardrobes .... but we are Delhi girls ..... and so we devised a set of parameters to make it elementary :)
1. Can we wear this in Delhi ?
2. Can our local Darzi (tailor) stitch it ?
3. Can we source the materials from our wardrobe or our local market ?
Tadaaaaaa ...... so these were our basic parameters ..... do check our top picks (achieved with lot of debates over some very fine bottles of our favourite tipples ;) ..... And oh yes the Designers featured are for once non relevant to our personal tastes in fashion except that each one of them gave us a totally new perspective on styling our Spring wardrobe :D
9. Pankaj and Nidhi SS 14 :

11. Rahul Mishra SS 14 :
Now Rahul is someone you do not replicate .... you simply buy if you can afford him .... or you just sigh over his masterpieces of construction ..... But Style thieves that we are because we cannot afford ONLY designerwear ... heheh .... what caught our eye is THAT skirt part of the jacket dress !! .... All you need is a plain old saree with a border ..... or a dupatta with phulkari border perhaps ..... play around with how you would wrap with the border edges aligned just so ..... then go to the Darzi .... ask him to put in a short underskirt with zip on the side and a "respectable" slit :p
Rahul Mishra SS 14 Wills India Fashion Week |
12. Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna SS 14 :
THAT blue wrapper was just another ordinary chiffon long coat to our eyes when we first saw it on ramp ......... THEN we realised that it was ATTACHED !!!! .... to a HALF SLEEVE coat !!!!! ..... oh the absolute BRILLIANCE of it !! .... You know why ?? ..... Sanchita Ajjampur SS 14 Wills India Fashion Week |
14 . Vaishali Shadangule SS 14 :
If you gotta invest in some intelligent layering this Spring Summer ..... Vaishali's theatre of white on white on white on white is the way to go peeps !!! ..... Check out THAT fantastic layering of Separates to wear in so many ways !! ..... First the capelet .... underneath that a Midi tunic .... underneath that a tassel bottomed underskirt .... and a bralet on top !!! .... Every item can be worn together or mixed with other elements to create so many looks .... that this is truly a wardrobe dream !!! .... Invest in different style of fabrics in the same colour family or like Vaishali .... keep it summer white ..... and keep it as the focal basics of your summer wardrobe .... trust us ... we can run a whole contest to see what variations people come up with .... with these separates :)
Vaishali Shadangule SS 14 Wills India Fashion Week |
15. Wendell Rodricks SS 14 :
