The invites for Manish Arora's Spring Summer 2015 show, carried a candy coloured three eyed Goddess Kali image with a very trippy pink universe dotted with astral lights ... The moment we saw the invite on instagram, we got the first hint of a signature Manish Arora show .... colourful, sparkling and a swayamvar of modern and mythological references !! ..... Many in the non Indian world do not know that aeons before Miley Cyrus put "twerq" in the dictionary and stuck her tongue out at the world in general .... our very own Goddess Kali was werquing it , tongue dripping in blood on top of Lord Shiva, the destroyer of the Cosmos !! .... Hah ! Take that Miley .... you are just a pastel copy of Bhadra Kali, the Goddess in a gentle mood :p  ... Coz when Ma Kali twerqs her bootiyan .... heads roll, the Gods shiver in their pants, and even Dracula and the Cullens hide their vampire fangs !! .... Trust Manish, the supreme Zeus of the Indian pantheon of Couturiers .... to pull both these references into a wisecrack of a collection logo .... in presenting the Miley ness of Kali .... hahaha ... who would have ever thought of the terribly empowered Divine Goddess in pastel hues ? .... For that matter, who else but Manish to offer a common language .... between today's Global cultural icons recognised for their tongues in the West where he showed .... and the notoriously feared and worshipped deity from his creative mothership India !!

Apart from the most obvious reference to Miley and Goddess Kali, .... Manish Arora's Spring Summer 2015 is a storyteller's paradise in its presentation !! .... Iridescent colour and the Hindu symbols of the Bindi (forehead dot), Maang Sindoor (coloured hair parting) and Naath (circular nosepin) has always been his signature elements ..... a homage to his motherland that he consciously uses in almost all his shows .... Perhaps no other Indian designer enjoys a global following on par with Manish .... from Tokyo to Italy to New York .... he has built a formidable cult while staying unapologetically Indian in spirit !! .... That same spirit showed up in his homage to a rising India's adventures in space .... with his spaceman, spaceship and cosmos print motif .... Perhaps he was clued in to our mega successful Mars mission ... perhaps he has a high sense of astral awareness ... but it is no coincidence that his overwhelmingly stunning show at Paris Fashion Week  took place a day after India reached the Mars orbit on the first attempt, the fourth space agency to do so and the first Asian nation !! ... This collection of his will always be remembered for this watershed moment in the hearts of all Indians following fashion !!

Of course the pastel colours, sheer with embellishment and the light hearted frothiness that fashion is enjoying at this moment are bang on trendy ..... A particular heavily embellished skirt in blue and red with layers of seed pearls peeping from underneath became the most instagrammed look from his show and is without doubt our favourite .... So is the 3D rose embellished maxi gown which is beyond pretty .... The backpacks, baseball caps and shiny platforms will be sell outs no doubt with the sporty look dominating this season too .... Also the accessories depicting Lord Shiva, Goddess Kali, and the many headed serpent God Vasuki who wears the Nagmani jewel on his forehead and represents the cycle of Time - past, present, future .... will be the coolest It items for his Indian market .... But for limited fund fashionistas like us, we are eyeing those super chic Third Eye and Goddess Kali face knit capsule collection that came on the runway towards the end :) ...  Did you know that the Goddess Kali drawn as Art is called Poteshwari in Bengal ? ..... Personally, i am praying that i can afford any of those 3D rose embellished numbers when it hits the stores !! .... Time to offer Blogger Discounts in your India stores Manish ... pretty please ? :D

For all those of you who watched his show on YouTube, the runway music is majorly by Grimes aka Claire Elise Boucher .... who is known to layer a combination of vocal elements in her music and sounds quite ethereal .... The opening track Crystal Ball is already on our ipod repeat and suited his collection perfectly !! .... BTW, just FYI .... Grimes took her recording name from Ken Grimes, an artist best known for his drawings of Aliens ..... Go figure !! .... See how every little detail falls into place ? .... Futuristic Manish on a space odyssey :p
